THE END OF THAT - THAT Corporation That Is

THAT Corporation, the heirs to the Blackmer VCA dynasty have announced they're shutting down their legacy chips like VCA, Balanced-In, Balanced-Out and several other parts that just don't sell enough to justify continuing production. The production technologies on older, smaller, wafer sizes is just too costly to maintain so they're pulling the plug. 

Here at HoT we suspect there are other motives also involved but the main takeaway from all this is.... the end of the Bus Comp as we've known it and the end of the classic DBX style VCA compressor. These parts purchased in quantity were not very expensive so it seems odd that there was not a big jump in price... or maybe that is coming for the remaining inventory and this is the warning shot.

This announcement and turn of events also means hardware compressors will probably go up in price, both new and used, as the supply dries up the price typically goes up for what is available. 

None of this is good news for gear-heads.
