AMS Neve, a favorite brand here at High on Technology has announced their new "Elements" range of processors. Currently there are three Elements boxes, each may be controlled with an app or the newly released 8424 console.
WHAT WE KNOW
When and if we can get our hands on a unit we'll report about the actual sonic performance.
There are three processor boxes in the range, one offers eight channels of dynamic range control based on the 88R console while two are devoted to shaping with EQ - one box of 88R EQ and one box with 1084EQ.
All the audio processing is done in the analog domain and control is all done with digital so real "Total Recall" is an app away.
On the rear are D-sub 25-pin connectors for all the in and out connections.
HIGH ON TECH TAKE
Personally I've never been a fan of Neve digital control but I'm mainly limited to the 8816 mixer and the 8804 mixing surface. Neve software has always felt kind of cobbled together, filled with little gotcha's and problems getting it going (I hate quirky installs). For instance, I read the manual for the 8424 console with moving faders and the install process for the fader control looked like a nightmare. As small studio owner I like to focus on making music instead of solving tech riddles.
EPILOGUE
I'm hopeful but I'm not rushing out to buy any of this. I must say I am attracted to programmable EQ but I'm waiting to try it out in person before I get excited. The 1084 is more akin to the 1073 I use all the time so that is where my real interest lies. I have no experience with 88R consoles either so the two 88R reproductions in the Elements range are more of a curiosity than a must have. Time will tell.
Thanks for reading High on Technology, Good Music To You!
