REVIEW JOYO CAB BOX, SPEAKER CABINET SIMULATOR, IR LOADER, AMP AND MIC SIMULATOR

JOYO CAB BOX, SPEAKER CABINET SIMULATOR, IR LOADER

The Cab Box is my latest Impulse Response speaker and amp simulator. This is a more expensive product offering from a company that is known for budget priced pedals. The technology in the Cab Box is quite impressive and so is the performance.

FEATURES

STANDARD 5-PIN MIDI INPUT FOR EXTERNAL CONTROL

A midi input on the side of the Cab Box allows programs to be selected with program changes.

The Cab Box comes loaded with 20 Impulse Response files (see specs at end for complete list).

The two footswitches step you up and down through the programs.

In addition to speaker emulation the pedal provides power amp simulation which allows you to select tube type as well as volume and gain staging functions.

There are five buttons located below the screen, these are used to select which feature you are tweaking. A separate button is provided for selecting Power Amp tweaking.

Along with power amp and speaker simulation there are eleven microphone models that can be called upon, all the usual suspects are here (see specs at end for list of models). A shared button selects between cabinet modeling and microphone modeling for tweaking settings.

The Cab Box is packed with powerful programmable EQ features. There are three separate equalizer modes, a graphic EQ for guitar, a graphic EQ for Bass and a full four-band parametric complete with Q controls, you choose which of the three to use.

LIKES

INPUT AND THRU JACK ARRANGEMENT, LIKE STANDARD DIRECT BOX

Classic Joyo Revolution Series construction, premium build quality.

Pedal operates on 9-volts DC (no 12, 15 or 18volt needed here)

Easy editing right on the face of the pedal.

XLR mic-level balanced output with ground lift switch.

Headphone output for late night headphone jamming.

Midi input for switching with “midi program changes”.

Large screen for editing.

DISLIKES

300mA current draw, requires very healthy power supply.

No power supply is included

No insert loop pre-XLR oiutput, you can still process the 1/4” output with reverb/modulation and then drive a basic direct box but no way to put reverb after the sim when using the XLR output.

Footswitches are spaced far apart to access bypass function (push both at once for bypass).
