I also spend a LOT of time in my recording studio playing with all sorts of electronic gadgets that can emit radiation under various circumstances. I'm on a 5-acre farm and the closest neighbor's house is over 300 yards away so I'm not really worried about them but if I was back in LA in my old apartment I would definitely want to see what is beaming around there.
I ordered this meter off Amazon when it was on special sale but it is still available for under $30 so that qualifies it for our category of “Bargain Studio Hacks”. It can be used to check ALL the areas in your home (not just your recording studio) for radiation like WiFi (high and low bands), Smart Meters, Microwave leakage and a few other surprising emitters of radio frequency garbage.
SURPRISES
In testing our home we found some surprise emitters. The little DC chargers that power our lives and recharge our phones were BIG emitters. My GF had one of these 5-volt chargers right next to the bed for charging her iPad, it was not the iPad making the emission, it was the CHARGER and it was emitting danger levels for a two foot radius.
The latest connection standards for computer peripherals puts active components inside the plugs (think Thunderbolt and latest USB-C connectors) and these “plugs” were lighting up the RED screen within four inches of them. Using another handheld detector I had recently eliminated a computer keyboard that was emitting a very large radius of EMF garbage and it was NOT even a wireless keyboard lol — that keyboard lights this meter if it is ON in the same room, WoW (I've written a lot of High on Technology articles on that keyboard, glad I got rid of it before it cooked my fingers).
Thankfully the microwave oven, Mac mini, and iPhones were all in the safe range. My OWC dock is safe but the charger that powers it needed to be moved away. Another lower priced USB power supply behind my computer needed to be moved farther away.
This handheld RF-EMF meter is super simple to use, turn it on and look at the screen -- you need to be holding the meter in your hand, it uses your body as a ground reference according to the instructions. The display is normally green, but when you get near radiation it goes yellow or red to let you know you’ve entered an unsafe area. Is it accurate? I’m not sure at this point but at my age I prefer to error on the side of caution.
EPILOGUE
I suspect a lot of people buy this detector, test their home and then return it because they’re feeling safe (it is shown to be a high return item). I’m keeping mine and we’re going to continue testing on a regular basis (I even ordered a high quality Alkaline battery for it LOL).
How much is your health worth to you? This seems like a good device to have on hand and use because radiation is a silent killer, microwaves can cook your food and your brain if they’re leaking into your life. With one of these you can move constant sources of radiation farther away from where you spend time and detect harmful intermittent radiation. This little detector is cheaper than a “Made in China” guitar stompbox and it might save your life; I call that a bargain.
Wishing everyone, Good Health To You!
